Summary
Charles Gray (29 August 1928 – 7 March 2000) was an English actor who was well known for roles including the arch-villain Blofeld in the James Bond film “Diamonds Are Forever”, Sherlock Holmes’ brother Mycroft Holmes in the eponymous Granada television series, and as The Criminologist in the cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” in 1975.
Genealogy
Gray was born Donald Marshall Gray on 29th August 1928 in Bournemouth (county of Dorset, England) the son of Maude Elizabeth (née Marshall) and Donald Gray. He died of cancer on 7th March 2000 in London (England) and was cremated in Golders Green Crematorium where his ashes remain.
I do not have a copy of Donald’s birth certificate and so can not confirm his father’s name. However, I have found the following entries in FreeBMD:
- The birth of Donald M Gray was registered in the September quarter of 1928 in the Bournemouth Registration District: Volume 2b, page 1026; mother’s maiden name was Marshall.
- The marriage of Donald Gray and Maude E Marshall was registered in the September quarter of 1924 in the Christchurch Registration District: Volume 2b, page 1689.
- The death of Charles Gray, age 71, born 26 Aug 1928, was registered in March 2000 in the Kensington and Chelsea registration district: register number B60B, entry 254.
