  • Charley Gray was Iron Turner / Machine Tool Setter.
  • He Charley was 64 when he died. He was a “turner and fitter” at cotton mills. 5’ 10”, strongly built. Lived in rented houses – always wanted his own. Saw some miners cottages outside of Bolton and started to buy it on a mortgage guaranteed by his son Warren and funded by himself and Margaret’s wages. Unfortunately, he died just before moving in. He had found some discarded carpet (from a cinema?), which he had bought home to roof a shed in the yard. When coming down a ladder – he slipped and scrapped his shin. On going inside, he said he didn’t feel well and his wife told him to go upstairs and rest. A short time later he was found dead – heart attack.
