    A British codebreaker who decoded the Zimmermann telegram in WWI and who worked at Bletchley Park in WWII.
    Nigel was born in 1886. He attended Eton College. On 17 January 1917, he decoded the Zimmermann Telegram from the German foreign secretary Arthur Zimmermann to the German ambassador Heinrich von Eckardt in Mexico. Germany wanted the Mexican government to assist Germany in World War I and in return, Germany would assist Mexico in the return of the states of Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico as an inducement to Mexico to side with Germany against the United States. The public disclosure of this secret Mexican-German pact brought the US into World War I. In World War II, he worked at the "Government Code and Cypher School" (GC&CS) at Bletchley Park, where he concentrated on German traffic encrypted on the Enigma cipher machine. on 27 March 2023.8
